Disrespecting the Disrespectful

As you surely know by now, former San Diego Mayor Bob Filner has been accused of sexually harassing over a dozen women.

But have you heard the latest in the Filner follies?

Hooters, the chain restaurant known for its scantily clad waitresses known as “Hooter girls,” has banned San Diego mayor Bob Filner from its four San Diego locations. For real. There is a sign on the doors stating

“The mayor of San Diego will not be served in this establishment. We believe women should be treated with respect.”

You know you’re in trouble when Hooters won’t let you in the door because you are not respectful enough of women.

Don’t let the pervasive cultural disrespect infiltrate your workplace.  How to avoid it? Make respect a core cultural value.  Train on it.  Live it by example.  You will see the rewards.
