Sometimes the easiest things to do on occasion are the hardest to turn into regular habits. Why? Because developing new habits is tricky, requiring both intention and practice. This is particularly true when it comes to being more respectful, civil and inclusive in our work behaviors because our brains our constantly trying to balance doing what’s best for ourselves vs. what’s good for others. Here are 10 really basic things we can incorporate into our day-to-day interactions with co-workers that will benefit them and potentially help ourselves at the same time.

U.S. Government Sends Message to World Regarding LGBT Rights and Why Our Workforces Need to Do the Same

The United States Department of State recently created a new position, U.S. Special Envoy for Human Rights of LGBT Persons. While this is great news for the world stage and a good sign that progress is being made, we still need to be mindful that LGBT people here in the United States still face discrimination on a daily basis, especially in the workplace.

I recently took an Uber to a meeting and the driver said something that really struck me. He told me how he’d just finished vacuuming the car out right before picking me up. A recent customer had clipped her fingernails during her ride and left nail remnants all over the back seat and floor.
