Staff members from Legacy Business Cultures will walk to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) during the annual Muscle Walk held on Saturday, March 29 in Cleveland.
The MDA Muscle Walk is a series of fun, non-competitive local walks held across the country, and it is the largest event of its kind in the United States. This year’s Northeast Ohio one takes place at the IX Center from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.
The walk provides a space to honor those with the more than 40 muscle diseases covered by MDA. It is also a fun-lighthearted way to join together with other advocates who are helping to raise awareness and funds to continue MDA’s research and support programs.
Team Legacy is led by team captain and Office Manager, Melody Costello, who found out about the walk at an informational meeting last fall. The goal of the team is to collectively raise $1000 toward the cause. Each staff member is encouraged by Melody to reach out to family, friends and colleagues to secure donations.
“The appeal of participating in the MDA Muscle walk was that all the money raised stays here locally in Northeast Ohio. That was important to us as an organization doing work in this area. In the end, we are able to give back and see the effects in our own communities and neighborhood,” said Melody.
According to Paul Meshanko, President & CEO of Legacy, “A couple of years ago I challenged my staff to get involved with the community and offered them one paid day a quarter to do such. This is the first group activity we have found to support and are looking forward to finding other similar opportunities in the future.”
MDA is the nation’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to funding neuromuscular disease research, health care services and education. MDA supports cutting-edge neuromuscular disease research; ensures that all Americans affected by these diseases receive treatment and critical care; and serves as a voice for families with neuromuscular disease.
